If you thought you knew everything about American BBQ, the South Dakotah BBQ Champion 2024 will make you think again. The Original South Dakota BBQ Championships was started in 2007 and is a sanctioned event through the Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) held in Huron, SD on the SD State Fairgrounds in conjunction with Wheel Jam. South Dakota – known for its expansive prairies, rugged Badlands, and the iconic Mount Rushmore – is not the first place you might think of for a culinary adventure. However, tucked within its expanses, lie feasts that will set the senses ablaze and tummies grumbling. If you’re a connoisseur of barbecue or simply enjoy a good festival, South Dakota has a burgeoning scene that’s sure to delight.

Starting on Friday, June 7, the event kicks off with the KCBS sanctioned one meat rib contest. In the evening is the F.A.T. Friday Chili Challenge, where the public is invited to participate in the people’s choice contest.

On Saturday, June 8, contestants can also compete in the four meat master series competition, the contest that started it all for the Original SD BBQ Championships. The Backyard BBQ People’s Choice competition is also held on Saturday, June 8.

The Wheel Jam Connection
