The Kora Kares for Kids Ride-In & BBQ is a renowned event organized by the Kora Shriners. This motorcycle ride and BBQ competition is one of their major fundraising activities, raising money to support the Shriners Hospital for Children New England, particularly providing specialized medical care to children at Shriners Hospitals for Children.
The weekend is dubbed “The Most Magical Weekend in BBQ.” The event typically begins with a scenic but majestic motorcycle ride across beautiful landscapes in Maine, allowing participants to enjoy the natural surroundings and connect with other riders. The route includes scenic and challenging parts suitable for riders of all skill levels. After the ride, participants gather back at the Ossipee Valley Fairgrounds to enjoy various food trucks and family-focused events, watch the BBQ competition, and support Shriners Hospital for Children New England.
The Details
The Kora Kares for Kids Ride-In & BBQ began in 2015 to raise awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children New England. Nicole and Chad Humphrey of Humphrey’s Smokers and Karen and Brent Tangway of Kora Shriners created the event.
The goal was to bring the community together and establish an annual event highlighting the hospitals’ work to support children’s medical needs through BBQ and a Bike Ride. Starting with 7 teams at a small airfield in Turner, Maine, the event has grown to 50 teams today, with Kathy Trainer promoting it.
The Kora Shriners organize several fundraisers annually, including the Kora Kares for Kids event, the Kora Shrine Circus (held for over 67 years), and the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic. These events help fund Shriners Hospital New England’s charitable operations and community services.
This Years Events
The Kora Kares for Kids Ride-In & BBQ is gearing up for another exciting year in Hiram, Maine, from August 16-18, 2024. This event celebrates New England BBQ excellence, bringing together enthusiasts of motorcycles, BBQ, and Shriners Hospitals for Children. With less than 30 days left, we invite you to be part of this international celebration of community, competition, and compassion.
For those who are new to the BBQ world and want to support Shriners Hospitals for Children’s efforts, you can participate in a KCBS judging class on Friday, August 16th, to become a certified judge. This portion of the event is an added fundraising opportunity that allows the community to immerse themselves in the world of BBQ.
