Rhode Island State BBQ Competition

On Saturday, July 6th, in Warwick, RI, at the Rhode Island State BBQ Championship, twenty local and national barbecue teams assembled to compete in four categories of BBQ meat. Despite initially daunting weather, the competitors’ spirits remained undeterred. As with all such gatherings, the event was filled with joy and camaraderie, showcasing the true spirit of barbecue competitions.

What Made This Years Competition So Special

This year’s RI Barbecue Championship is proudly sanctioned by the Champion Barbecue Alliance from Texas. With 20 competitors, including some traveling from Texas, the event was packed with fierce competition. Governed by Champions Barbecue Alliance the competition serves as an automatic qualifier for the prestigious Jack Daniels Invitational in Tennessee. Additionally, the Grand Champion will receive an invitation to the American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas City, MO.

This year’s competition featured Bill Gillespie, founder and Head Pit Master of the World Champion Smokin’ Hoggz BBQ. Also in attendance was the renowned Bill Purvis of Chicken Fried Barbecue.
