The Roanoke Roundup stands as a testament to tradition in the heart of Texas, where the aroma of steak and the sound of country music are as ubiquitous as the bluebonnets in spring. It’s a celebration that grips you by the heartstrings and pulls you back to an era where a handshake was worth more than a contract and neighbors were as close as family.
In 2024, the Roanoke Roundup once again swept the Lone Star State, and this year, its embers burned brighter than before, welcoming cowboys and cowgirls from every part of Texas with a promise of timeless festivities and genuine camaraderie. Here, in the “Unique Dining Capital of Texas,” food isn’t just sustenance—it’s a tradition, a heritage, and an art, woven into the very fabric of this western tapestry.

The Char-Grilled Verses: BBQ Pitmaster Tasting Competition
For the first time in the history of Roanoke Roundup, the organizers introduced a unique competition that combined the love for food with the art of prose—the Char-Grilled Verses! Participants from far and wide captured the essence of the event in their ruminations, and the winners were regaled with a feast and their verses immortalized in the annals of Roanoke history.
Poets invited the reader to partake in their ballads and imagine the succulent melodies of brisket and the golden elixir of local brews, cleverly intertwining gastronomic delights with tales of yore and modern-day revelry.

Smoke Signals – A Signature Steak Cookoff Associates
No description of Roanoke Roundup is complete without the mention of the Steak Cookoff Associates, the soul of the festival. This year, the competition was fierce, with pitmasters vying for the title of the best grillmaster in Texas. Theirs was a battle of sultry fragrances, subtle flavors, and a pursuit of perfection that could only be matched by the festival’s namesake.
The winners didn’t just receive accolades; they were anointed with the pride that comes with mastery over the traditional delicacies of Texan cuisine — a privilege not taken lightly in these parts.
