Equipment

  • Grill pan or outdoor grill
  • Cutting board
  • Brush (for honey)

Ingredients

  • 1 whole fresh pineapple
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Cooking oil or spray for grilling

Instructions

Preparing the Pineapple:

  • Peel the Pineapple: Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Stand it upright and carefully slice away the skin from top to bottom, ensuring to remove any brown eyes.
  • Slice: Cut the pineapple into ½-inch thick rounds. You can core the slices if you prefer, but it’s not necessary.
  • Season: In a small bowl, mix the honey and cinnamon until well combined. Brush both sides of each pineapple slice with the honey cinnamon mixture. Ensure each slice is evenly coated for the best flavor.

Grilling the Pineapple:

  • Preheat the Grill: If you’re using an outdoor grill, preheat it to a medium-high temperature. For a grill pan, set it over medium-high heat on your stove. Make sure to lightly oil the grill grates or pan to prevent sticking.
  • Grill the Pineapple: Place the pineapple slices on the grill or pan. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes or until you see nice grill marks and the pineapple becomes fragrant.
  • Flip Carefully: Use a spatula to flip the pineapple slices. If you’ve used a marinade, now is a good time to add a little more on top as you flip.
  • Check for Doneness: The pineapple is done when it’s golden brown with beautiful grill marks. It should be slightly softened but not mushy.

Serving:

  • Plate your Dish: Arrange the grilled pineapple slices on a serving platter. They’re incredible on their own or with a sprinkle of extra ground cinnamon on top.
  • Add Extras: For an indulgent treat, serve the grilled pineapple warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Garnish with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color and freshness.

Notes

  • Choosing Pineapple: For the best results, use a pineapple that’s ripe and ready to eat. It should have a slight give when pressed and smell sweet at the base.
  • Variation: You can also cut the pineapple into spears instead of rounds for easier grilling and eating.
  • Storage: If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Enjoy cold, or reheat briefly on the grill or in a pan.
Enjoy the irresistible combination of warm, caramelized pineapple with a hint of cinnamon – a simple yet exotic treat that will leave everyone asking for more!
