The Dog Days of Summer are perfect for taking a leisurely drive from your RI BBQ Pits and Grills up to The Eastern Seaboard of Maine. Travel up 95 North and get on Route 1 in KITTERY, at the first State of Maine “VACATIONLAND” exit. Traversing up Route 1 in the summer sunshine will immediately decrease any and all of your stress levels! You are now entering LOBSTER ROLL COUNTRY! The Maine Lobster Roll Wars are notorious…there are Lobster Shacks, Clam Shacks, Chowder Huts, and Ice-Cream Pavilions galore along Route 1. Each spot claims to have the tastiest, most mouthwatering, and absolutely scrumptious culinary delights.

This saporous plate is from “BOB’s Clam Hut,” located at 315 Route 1, Kittery, Maine, 03904. Bob’s Clam Hut has been “a mecca for the best fried clams and lobster rolls in Maine,” since 1956. As their website touts, “At Bob’s, we’re passionate about sharing the essence of Maine seafood culture, serving up the freshest local catch with a smile.” As a recent patron, I can convey that the atmosphere was indeed jovial and that the food was outstanding. The line for ordering food and beverages always stretches around the corner of the building for a reason: Bob’s original recipes are scrumptious. Customer favorites include Bob’s Famous Tartar Sauce and The Lillian Fried Clams, and of course- the luscious Lobster Roll. Bob’s Clam Hut has been featured on The Food Network show “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives,” as well as on Thrillist’s “50 essential Restaurants Every American Should Visit.” Bob’s Clam Hut has not altered their Lobster Roll Recipe for more than 50 Years!

Yankee Magazine, Food & Wine, Boston.com, USA Today and Martha Stewart herself have all given “Bob’s Clam Hut,” rave reviews. For Daily Hours and for Market Prices regarding their Seafood Menu, you can reach Bob’s at: 207-439-4233.

Starting your Lobster Roll “PUB” Crawl in Kittery, Maine and continuing up the Eastern Seaboard Coast could be an entire Summer’s Vacation in and of itself! But for a quick jaunt from RI to Kittery, the trip is approximately a 2 hour excursion each way: it is an unhurried and unharried and YUMMY way to spend a nirvanic Summer’s Day. If you find yourself wishing to travel a bit further North in search of further fun and with time to Dillydally, The Perfect Summer Cocktail can be found at The Oarweed Restaurant located in Perkins Cove, Ogunquit, Maine. The “Bernie’s Blueberry Splash” Cocktail alone is fundamentally worth the 2 hour drive ! The combination of Blueberry Vodka, Lemonade, Fresh Blueberries and a splash of Club Soda is remarkably refreshing. The Bernie’s Blueberry Splash is the essence of summer in a glass. I wholeheartedly recommend ordering that Cocktail. The Oarweed Restaurant opened in the Summer of 1963, and is open Seasonally from Mother’s Day into October. People come to this spot “Driven by it’s view–The allure of the rocky coast and the surf of a quickened Atlantic” is a picturesque and apt description of the restaurant. The Oarweed also has a succulent Lobster Roll on their menu; everyone at our table gave their Lobster Rolls dynamite “2 Thumbs-Up” Reviews. The Oarweed characterizes their Boiled Maine Lobster as “our first and foremost menu item; with 4 giant tanks filled with cold ocean water straight from the Atlantic, we are truly a classic Lobster pound.”
